Welcome to the new and improved Baseball Trade Values website!
We have been hard at work on this new version of BTV and we are excited to share all of the improvements, including a streamlined design, improved performance, faster loading times, more frequent player value updates and tons of exciting new features.
The BTV website now offers two different subscription tiers, Front Office and General Manager. These tiers come with varying levels of access to the new features, as well as an ad-free experience, discounts on the new BTV merchandise and more.
To be clear: none of BTV’s key features are being taken away or paywalled. Users in the free tier will still be able to create trades, post them to the trade boards, comment on other users’ trades, read articles, listen to podcasts and more. But the new Front Office and General Manager subscription tiers offer exciting new perks and features that we can’t wait to share.
Here’s a summary of each of these new tools and features, including where to find them and links to tutorial videos explaining how to use them.
As always, if you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments below or reach out to us.

Value Matcher
Available with: Front Office or General Manager subscription
The Value Matcher tool within the Trade Simulator allows you to quickly shop a player around the league and find players within a similar value range who could make sense as a trade return.
To use the Value Matcher, select a team in the Trade Simulator. Then, find the player you would like to trade, and use the “Trade To” dropdown to send them to the Value Matcher. There, you can sort players as you would like, or filter by level (Majors/Minors) or position.
This can be used to find a match from any team across the league (if only one team is selected on the Trade Simulator) or from a specific team (if two teams are selected in the Simulator).
Badges
Available with: Front Office or General Manager subscription
If you sign up for one of our subscription tiers, you’ll get a badge denoting that status on your profile, which will appear next to all trade proposals and comments.
GM Override
Available with: General Manager subscription
The GM Override feature allows subscribers of that tier to bypass the algorithm and submit trade proposals that may not normally be accepted by our model. If you feel strongly that a certain player would cost considerably more (or less) than what we’re showing, here’s your chance to make that case. Note that you’ll be asked to explain why you think so.
Team Totals/Team Rankings
Available with: General Manager subscription
The Team Totals and Team Rankings pages have been overhauled. On the Team Totals page, you can select any team and get a quick summary of the team’s total Field Value, Salaries and Surplus Value at the major league level, total Surplus Value at the minor league level, and total Surplus Value across both the majors and minors. You can also view a full roster of all player values from that team.
The Team Rankings page allows you to quickly view how each team ranks in the above categories (Major League Field Value, Major League Salaries, Major League Surplus Value, Minor League Surplus Value and Total Surplus Value).
Future Trade Value
Available with: General Manager subscription
The Future Trade Value timeline allows you to view projected trade values for players in future seasons, as their remaining years of team control, projected field value and projected salaries change.
On the Player Value Timelines page, type in the player you’d like to view and select their name from the list. Their Future Trade Value timeline will pop up. Hover over different points on this timeline to view the player’s projected Field Value, Salary and Surplus Value at each point in time.
Future Free Agent Value
Available with: General Manager subscription
The Future Free Agent Value timeline allows you to view projected contract values for current free agents.
On the Player Value Timelines page, type in the player you’d like to view and select their name from the list. Then, if they are a current or pending free agent, you can click on the “Future Free Agent Value” tab and the timeline will populate.
You can adjust the “Future Years” dropdown to see total value and average annual value change depending on the length of the contract. Hover over different points on this timeline to view the player’s projected Field Value, Salary and Surplus Value at each point in time.
Future Extension Value
Available with: General Manager subscription
The Future Free Agent Value timeline allows you to view projected contract values for players who are nearing free agency.
On the Player Value Timelines page, type in the player you’d like to view and select their name from the list. Then, if they are still under team control but nearing free agency, you can click on the “Future Extension Value” tab and the timeline will populate.
You can adjust the “Future Years” dropdown to see total value and average annual value change depending on the length of the contract. Hover over different points on this timeline to view the player’s projected Field Value, Salary and Surplus Value at each point in time.

7Excited to dig into this. Love the site. Maybe in the future consider a roster builder. Spotrac has 1 but it's awful to navigate and use. Being able to get a visual of a team post trade could go a long way
Thank you for these changes. I am as enthused by the new trade displays as I was dismayed by the old. Having player names and levels is a huge value add. I appreciate your efforts immensely.
Loving the new site. Cheers
I've always wished you could toggle back to a past year and explore trades that could have happened at a previous deadline or offseason, is that possible in the future?
It would also be a really helpful feature to have something like what the Athletic did this offseason - a periodically updated readout of top team needs https://theathletic.com/5052911/2023/11/13/mlb-offseason-team-needs-free-agency/
