Nick Castellanos ended his holdout, meaning the last major free agent has come off the board to play left field in Cincinnati. With that, Jon Heyman reports, has come rumors that the Reds are "exploring trade scenarios" including highly-touted youngster Nick Senzel. Does it seem crazy to send him to the Dodgers? Yes and no. Justin Turner is entering the last year of his 4-year deal with LA. A prime regression candidate, and extending Turner carries lots of risk to an organization with prospects constantly knocking on the door of the bigs. Senzel is primarily a 3B, but can slide in at second or any outfield spot and not miss a beat. Plus, the Dodgers LOVE their IF/OF utility guys (see Kike Hernandez and Chris Taylor). Following the signing of Castellanos, the only hole on the Reds roster seems to be at shortstop, where Freddy Galvis currently holds the starting spot. Seager had been linked to CIN as a potential trade target earlier this winter, so the idea of him in a Reds uniform isn't exactly foreign. Kody Hoese is still a bit undeveloped at the plate, but has the potential to be a well-rounded corner infielder by the time he comes to The Show. Santana is more of a lottery ticket throw-in to even out the values.

This makes a ton of sense now for the Reds. I'm just not sure it does for the Dodgers, since they're trying to win a championship, and Seager has more present win value than Senzel. So it would weaken LAD for 2020 a bit, which would seem counter to their strategy. Senzel to the Rockies for Story et al seems like a better fit, but I get the impression the Rockies don't want to trade Story (even though they should).

Very good point. I'm not sure how I forgot about that "win-now" attitude during my thought process!

John, your logic has merit about the Dodgers, but still it would have to be very tempting. Getting 6 years of Senzel who isn't arb qualified till 2022 verses 2 years of Seager who is at 7.6M this year and probably much higher next year. I guess it would depend if the Dodgers think Lux is ready for SS this year. His stats at AAA would seem to indicate he is. Chris Taylor could also fill in at SS if they want to give ease Lux into the position.
