My lord, this was hard to pull off, so the fairness and logic behind this may be a little skewed. I will attempt to explain: Keibert Ruiz: Ruiz miraculously stayed a Dodger during last year's trade deadline, despite strong inclusion in Felipe Vazquez trade rumors. Obviously, Ruiz is a complete catcher who has remained in the upper echelon of prospect rankings for as long as I can remember him playing. However, his availability is high, due to the solid season that Dodgers backstop Will Smith made behind the plate last year. The Red Sox have a decent starting catcher in Christian Vazquez, but Ruiz would immediately become the strongest prospect in an otherwise barren farm system in Boston and would eventually overtake Vazquez. Joc Pederson: We all know what Joc Pederson brings to the table: home runs, walks, and strikeouts. However, his inclusion in this deal is driven by the Red Sox PR team. As a talented team, Sox fans would hate to see their front office throw in the towel for the 2020 season for a few prospects. In order to maintain the fans' trust in the front office, the Red Sox would need to take back players capable of performing as an MLB player. Pederson is currently on a one year deal, but should he have a productive year at Fenway, he would be a much cheaper extension candidate than Mookie Betts would be. Michael Busch: Eventually, the creaky old man that plays second base for the Red Sox is going to retire. Why not take a chance at acquiring a future replacement for him right now? He projects to be a slugging second baseman, and with him only being at the single-A level, there is plenty of room for him to develop a glove before his 2021 ETA. Caleb Ferguson: Ferguson pitched 46 games for the Dodgers last year, and the results were underwhelming. However, at the ripe age of 22 years old, Ferguson showed flashes of production when his command was consistent. These times were few and far between, but as he develops at the big league level, he is a solid bullpen arm with starting rotation upside. Mookie Betts: Do I really need to explain his impact? This is THE piece for the Dodgers, one that they hope will push them over the hump and finally bring home a World Series title to Tinseltown.
