Cubs come close to break even salary wise in 2021 with Bryant/Schwarber being traded and pick up additional relief in future years with the Rockies covering some amount of Arenados contract in the later years. They get the long term 3rd basemen they claim they were hoping for in the past while also picking up a middle of the rotation starter to slot behind Yu and Hendricks after losing Quintana and Lester. Rockies save face by claiming they can still compete in 2021 by adding 2 former all stars while shedding a large amount of Arenado's future money. Figuring out the $$ would be the biggest pain as well as Arenado agreeing to delay his opt-out till after next CBA.
