5This is a very interesting straight up one for one trade. I'm loath to see the Twins give up Larnach, but there is redundancy with Kiriloff. Whitley is very intriguing and the Twins would have control of him for a LONG time. I wonder if the Twins could package Larnach, Polanco and something else to the Reds for Luis Castillo. To me, Whitley is interesting, but the Twins are built to contend NOW. Castillo would be the surer thing and a difference maker.
Twins need a starting pitcher, and someone like Whitley is both cheap and team controlled. Twins have a surplus of OF depth in the majors and minors. Astros need OFs so very bad and Larnach is an OF. Plus, he's likely to be pretty badass. Astros have good pitching depth and don't necessarily have more for Whitley at the outset of 2021. This would seem to benefit both squads, trading from a surplus. It will never happen, but I'd love to see it.
You are welcome to play around with options like that in the simulator.
The only thing is Castillo is WAY overpriced. Hard to make a trade without pairing him with Castellanos.
That's certainly possible, but now we're hearing that the Yankees couldn't meet the Reds' asking price, which is understandably quite high. So that would suggest we're not too far off the mark here. As another commenter pointed out in another thread, it's almost impossible to trade a guy whose on-paper value is sky high, because few teams can meet the asking price. So they might want to wait a bit for time to erode that value. This time next year it will be a more reasonable price. The Rays did the same thing with Archer a few years ago.
