So, after seeing reports about Mets looking at Amora Jr, I figured I'd try and find a player who is a much better defensive option in CF for NYM while also not completely sacrificing offensive. This is regardless that they just added Lindor and had the highest OPS+ in the league last year anyways. Pirates just traded their star 1B, so a pick up with control in a player like Smith could be huge (plus I think he's a better player overall than Bell) and obtain something for their pipeline as it got pretty thin after the Oneil Cruz incident. Enter a young player in Matthew Allen, the Mets #4 prospect. ETA'd by MLB.com in 2023 which is no problem for a very needed rebuilding Pirates. Mets gain a switch hitting bat that could allow Nimmo to move to LF and allow for a better up the middle defensive replacement. Reynolds took a step back offensive in 2020 but improved a lot defensively, especially in CF - albeit the short sample size. Now my qualm with this trade is there isn't a monetary incentive for the Bucc's as they are both pre-arb players. BUT they do get a pitcher in their pipeline who would, technically, be ready for a more competitively established team later on. And they do get a replacement bat for the lost of Bell. If there becomes a DH in the league, than this whole exercise is obsolete lol. But would love to hear what you guys think.
