Buster Posey gets to come home to Georgia to finish up his career and have a much better shot at another ring. Giants pay $6 M of his salary to get better MLB-ready pitchers. Joey Bart doesn’t have to wait for Posey to retire to become the everyday catcher anymore. He’s ready. I think the Braves are the only team Posey could get traded to. If d’Arnaud has any injury problems like he’s had previously in his career Posey becomes the primary catcher. If two of Contreras, Jackson, or Langeliers look like they won’t be ready by 2022, the Braves can choose not to buyout his contract for 2022 (if he doesn’t retire). Braves get a pitching prospect that’s a couple years behind the progress of De La Cruz or Newcomb.

There's a better chance of Pete Rose making the Hall of Fame than there is the Giants trading Buster Posey. Posey has been extremely vocal about his unwillingness to play elsewhere. He'd likely retire before being traded somewhere else. And this ignores the fact that there's zero chance the Giants ownership would approve such a move. Buster Posey is the franchise icon. They won't move him for spare parts.

I realize that. I even made a comment in someone else's trade proposal along the lines of Posey wouldn't be moved unless a blue chip prospect could be included. I do feel like the allure of the Braves being his hometown team and a potential World Series contender would be appealing to Posey. Appealing enough to change his mind about playing elsewhere? Only Posey knows that.

Well, unless Posey has lied to NBC Sports Bay Area, The Athletic, the San Francisco Chronicle, and multiple other outlets, I think it's safe to say he wants to be a Giant. Also, what Blue Chip prospect is going to the Giants here? I hope you're not suggesting De La Cruz is a "blue chip" prospect...

none. I'm no longer trying to defend this trade.

Also, Seth Corry is quickly becoming a consensus Top 100 prospect. His value on this site needs to reflect his rise as a burgeoning prospect. Even if the Giants considered moving Posey (they won't), Zaidi isn't attaching Seth Corry just to get rid of Buster Posey.

Corry is not considered a Top 100 prospect by either Baseball America or Fangraphs, which are the two outlets that carry the most weight in our model, as they correlate well to the market. So we can't change it unless they change their ratings.

"Quickly becoming" doesn't mean "he is", John, Fangraphs will likely put him at a 45+, which puts him just outside the cusp of their top 100 (technically, top 133). Either way, his "value" is much, much higher than 8.8M, and a little bit of research from posters would help people see this. He's not getting attached as a means to get rid of Posey's contract.
