3If the Phillies slide any further, this trade could make some sense for both. The Brewers desperately need a consistent offensive option at 1B and the Phils would get the Brewers #2 prospect in SS Brice Turang, a potential Hoskins replacement in Hiura and a power/speed combo OF in Joe Gray Jr.
I guess for this to work for the Phils, they would have to believe they could turn around Hiura's badly slumping bat in time to help them next year. For the Brewers this should be a no-brainer.
Absolutely. It is similar, in some respect, to teams signing pitchers who have just had Tommy John surgery and banking on the value that they will generate post surgery is more than the 2 years of salary that they are paying those pitchers.
