IMO this is way too much for the Brewers to give up for two years of Olson. Ashby and Small figure prominently in their post Burnes/Woodruff pitching plans. Tellez is an ok 1B, nowhere near an Olson, but ok for now.

Does Milwaukee flip Burnes and Woodward within the next two years?

As with most teams, Brewers would listen to offers. However, so much can happen that I think any grand plan they might have must be flexible. Injuries, bad performance, success of incoming pitchers, needed hitting etc...etc...all are taken into consideration. Regarding this trade: I would imagine this would be the asking price for Olson. It's a fair deal. I'm also sure the Brewers don't want Ashby included in any trade so I would think counter offers would be made. If this trade would be made I think the Brewers would be a better team in 2022, but maybe not in 2023 and beyond. Olson is only controlled for 2 years so giving up Mitchell, Ashby and Small's controllable years is a tough sell.

Thanks for the talk.

I enjoyed it also

That's all perfectly reasonable. The conflict is I imagine Ashby being Oakland's first ask because they'll be shopping for arms. As for counter offers, the closest two players with similar value are Sal Frelick and Brice Turang. I don't believe the A's will have much interest in Turang since they have a lot of prospect capital invested in middle infielders. Would the Brewers really be willing to include another OF prospect, especially the guy they just drafted 1.15, to keep Ashby out of the deal? I think it would be easier to swap out Small with a position player of comparable value then it is to remove Ashby.

Thanks for your reply. I should mention that Turang maybe groomed to play CF and I think with Adames at SS the Brewers are grooming him to take over for Cain. I think Turang might fit the A's if they think he can play OF. I don't know what the trade would eventually look like but maybe there might be a match. In another trade proposal you asked about Urias at 3B. As of now I think the Brewers plan to have him as the full time 3B. He had a good August - October hitting around .280 hitting 10 home runs in 162 AB's. His defense was also much better at 3B then at SS. Bottom line is I don't think the Brewers will actively try to replace him. The hitters they need will probably come at 1B and OF, assuming Garcia goes FA. Olson would be a great fit if a trade could be worked out

Thank you for the Urias info. Turang hasn't played in CF during milb games so I don't see how Oakland can consider him for the position. The bat still needs projection; it's fine if you've got him starting at SS but CF and 2B have higher offensive expectations. I think there's too much maybe here for Turang to be a option.

Spikes

I believe it was on a Brewer broadcast that I heard the news about Turang working out in CF. You are correct that the A's probably wouldn't want to count on him to play CF, at least initially. We'll see how the off season goes. Maybe the real GM's can work out a trade. The Brewers need hitting and the As would like pitching. It would seem that at least a trade will be discussed. Maybe the GM's can figure out a trade that satisfies both. It's almost certain that if they do come up with a trade some fans from both teams won't like it. Such is the life of a GM. As I said in my first comment, I think this is the type of return the A's will ask for Olson, and I don't blame them. The Brewer fan in me wants to adjust the trade so it isn't so hurtful in years 3, 4, and 5.
