Not really a serious trade suggestion, in part because Hosmer's not a good 1st baseman -- he'd probably be a DH for the A's. But this trade would give the A's an excellent OFer in place of Piscotty, a lefty DH in Hosmer, and two excellent prospects in Hassell (#3 prospect) and Wood (#5 prospect). Olsen and Piscotty's projected 2022 salaries offset Hosmer's, and the Padre's chip in $9M towards the $39M he's owed for the following 3 years. It'll never happen because of the long-term commitment to Hosmer, and the A's apparent plans to slash payroll, but it was an interesting thought experiment. I considered including MacKenzie Gore in the trade, but his injury history and mechanical issues worry me.

Yeah, Hosmer is not a good pickup for the A's, but it is refreshing to see a trade that tries to address A's money issues and isn't "you'll take our 3rd rate yankees hitting arbitration and thank us". (so many yankees trades where they try to dump Voit)
