This is a good trade for both clubs if the A's are looking to re-tool rather than rebuild. The Yanks get a front of the rotation starter (for a year) plus a lotto ticket in Holmes (a former 1st rd pick and ML top-100 player in his younger years), who's finally healthy, but underwhelmed in AAA last year. The A's get 3 pitchers who are still pre-Arb, all of whom have some starting experience, but all of whom have some question marks. They can battle it out this spring to help replace Manaea (and probably Bassitt) in the Oakland rotation, with the loser(s) sliding to the bullpen (which also needs help) or AAA for more seasoning. I think the A's will require a slight overpay for Manaea, so Lockridge is included (the A's could use some more OF depth in the high minors), but he's not essential to the deal.
