3I'm really reticent to give up Palmer; his upside is well past what his TV gives him credit for (2 no hitters this season). Also think Van Eyk has another gear for sure. But, the values are the values and this does fit the Jays' current needs.
Jay's get their #5, Royals get a decent prospect in Van Eyk. I thought about Thornton as the second piece, but that would be cruel.
I think that Robberse has more to offer too. With the numbers being the same, it was a coin flip for the primary piece. The secondary, well, pick mostly anyone with a 0.2 to 0.5 SV. Minor checks a lot of boxes for me. 2.2 Steamer fWAR (2.3 actual in '22). 1 year guaranteed with an option which dovetails nicely if the FO stretches out Pearson. It moves Stripling to longman (I wouldn't mind seeing an upgrade there) and Thornton to AAA.
