11Bassitt is slept on. He’s been better then guys like Frankie Montas & Max Fried the last 3 years. He’s gotten Cy Young votes in those years, criminally underrated.
Even if the Mets gave Newton instead of Santos.
This is insanely stupid the Mets have J.D. Davis who isn’t bad.
Mets should want to have nothing to do with Matt Chapman. He broke out early and his offense has been dwindling ever since. And his acquisition would block the transition for Vientos and Baty who are the long term solutions at 3B and are almost there already.
Well Chapman is an elite defender, best in the league at 3B. Something the Mets haven’t had at the hot corner since Wright. Vientos profiles as a DH type that could spend some time at 3rd. This is a team in win now no guarantee Vientos tears the cover off the ball within the next 2 years, honesty it’s more likely than not he doesn’t. They shouldn’t be worried about upgrading because it COULD POSSIBLY block Baty in 2024. They could absolutely make it work with Chapman being a UFA come 2024, it honestly matches up perfect as the Mets are at beginning of a 2-3 year all in window. Chapman bring a platinum glove and pop that can hit 25-30 HR at minimum. If he never returns to the better all around hitter he was his first couple years it’s still a substantial upgrade for the Mets IF they are bent on getting rid of McNeil.
We clearly see all 3 players potential differently. We will have to agree to disagree and time will tell whose perception was more accurate.
Down vote for Oakland. Mauricio has a boatload of tools but the truth is... he's never really hit. He's a switch-hitter that's been ineffective from both sides of the plate thanks to a poor approach. Sure, he's only 20 and he should have time to figure things out but he's also on just been added to the 40 man roster so the clock is ticking. Oakland should say "No" to any deal built around Mauricio. And replacing Chapman with an infielder older then him doesn't make sense.
I was thinking the same thing when I made it but ultimately I decided on the deal because while it might not be the ideal trade piece I don’t know that if between now and Opening day anybody else is going to offer a higher ceiling prospect along with a major league talent. Oakland needs to trade these pitchers now if they are going to. By the trade deadline there would be no chance of landing a prospect better then Mauricio. With the limited window once MLB returns I took this to be the best most realistic offer the A’s get as the Mets are their best match and will not part with Alvarez, Baty or Vientos
I agree Oakland is Selling when the lockout ends. I haven't seen or heard anything to suggest that ownership has changed it's mind on slashing payroll. But I don't care how highly Mauricio is ranked because I think he's going to Bust. Why would the A's trade for a player if they felt the same way? Chapman/Bassitt creates enough trade value to bring Baty into play. If Baty is not available then the simple solution is to split Bassitt and Chapman and deal them separately.
Sent you a counter-offer. https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/trade-71580/
Are you kidding? JD is awful. He’s the worst defender in the entire league. He’s had about 1 1/3 productive seasons with the bat and had at least 4 trips to the IL during that time. He’s always hurt and both him and the Mets are ready for a change.
