5It's an interesting attempt to get SD to kick loose Campusano but I wonder if it would be better to exclude Profar/Piscotty from the mix. Oakland says "No" because Morejon's arm is held together by dandelion fluff and while there are 6.6 TV options available, tying Piscotty to Montas is the worst possible pairing for the A's.
Do you like Paddack, or is he too expensive???
I assume this is for me... Paddack's elbow gave him problems last year, he ended up finishing 2021 on the IL and getting platelet injections to try and rehab the elbow. Being the ray of sunshine that I am... I figure that means TJS is coming by May. Better to let SD pay for him to not pitch again until the end of 2023.
Are the Athletics getting enough in this deal for Montas? Would Manaea or Bassitt be a better fit? Are the Padres reducing enough payroll to go out and make other moves? Are the Mets giving up too much in McNeil and Diaz for the Padres expensive outfielders? Profar can play 2B as a replacement for McNeil, and Myers provides an intriguing corner outfielder option. The trade was marked as a slight overpay by the Mets, and I think that’s probably accurate, but if this can help the Mets acquire Montas, and then sign high leverage relievers in free agency, this is a really good deal.
Fair enough. I wasn’t sure if it was enough. I think I can make it work if the As don’t deal Piscotty and the Padres don’t deal both Myers AND Profar.
