Made in response to a pair of rumors over the past couple days. I'll be clear and say that I don't expects the Mets to trade Nimmo, I'm just an M's fan who dreams of seeing my team in the playoffs, so I'm clearly biased in one way. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/02/showalter-mets-not-ruling-out-possibility-of-adding-to-the-outfield.html https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/02/mariners-on-the-hunt-for-bats.html The trade is essentially a trade of injury prone high ceiling players. Nimmo apparently wants to play CF, and Seattle has no clear option and want a lefty OF. Lewis replaces Nimmo in the Mets outfield with 4 more years of control, and Then provides the Mets with more pitching depth. Trading Then also opens up a 40 man spot for the Mariners to pursue Bryant in free agency.

While acknowledging your caveat that you know it's not realistic that the Mets trade Nimmo, I do want to make a few points: -The article about the Mets possibly wanting to add to the outfield I think is referring more to 4th/5th outfielders, similar to what Kevin Pillar was last year. Right now the Mets' outfield depth behind the starting three is McNeil (who might be traded), Smith (who might be traded and is not really an outfielder), Davis (who might be traded and is not really an outfielder) and Lee (who had a great year in AAA but was terrible in the bigs in 21). And of course your deal isn't adding an outfielder to the Mets, it's a lateral move. -The Mets, like your M's desire, also look to contend this year, and I'd argue Lewis is a pretty solid downgrade from Nimmo, and Then isn't really enough to get the Mets to weaken the 2022 squad.
