Rays don't need a pitcher bad enough to trade their future CF. Guys like Brujan and Jones would be less painful for the Rays than J.Lowe. That said, I don't think the Rays are in the market for a guy like Mahle unless Glasnow is part of the trade. He's too expensive for the Rays in trade cost.

I was wondering about this- obviously they want to move Kiermaier and maybe Margot, but they have so many young CF options i wasn't sure who they'd part with. Enviable depth there. Would they part with Brujan? So you think they're comfortable with their SP depth? The top looks good with McClanahan, Rasmussen, and eventually Baz, but I don't know as much about the guys behind them. Also it looks about cash-neutral for 2022, which was something I considered since both orgs are reluctant to spend.
I don't think they'd part with Brujan for a collection of stiffs of comparable value, but for the right player, sure. A top 3 pitcher for their rotation would really make their rotation a dominant group in my opinion, but it's also a luxury. A rotation of McClanny, Kluber, Rasmussen, Patino, Baz, Yarbrough, Fleming and Romero is just fine with the Pen they have. The Rays biggest need/want is a RHB for 1B/DH. They also have a need at 3B, but they can fill 3B internally if necessary. The Pen is fine as is, but they'll probably add a few arms on minor league contracts before OD. KK needs to be traded. The rest of the team/roster is largely fine. They could replace Margot with a younger/cheaper option. They could move Yarbs I suppose for someone younger/cheaper or on a minor league contract. Those are just moves around the margin though. They are a very good team as is.
Yeah their depth is basically always impressive. Fun team to follow- wish the Reds could be half as innovative.
They've been all over the place. The sense we've been getting is that Castellini (the terrible, incompetent owner) inserts himself into baseball decisions way too much, so they have had trouble choosing a course and maintaining it. The 2014/15 rebuild failed completely, so they tried to force the door open with ill-advised acquisition & spending sprees. But they half-assed it, failed again, and now they're panicking. They have to be one of the 5 worst-run teams in baseball.
Sorry to hear that. Seems like the common denominator for a consistently bad team is bad ownership, and there's not much you can do to change ownership.
From the outside looking in, the Reds don't appear to have a master plan for what they want to do (ie: they overreact to each good or bad season). Maybe I'm wrong, but their current strategy seems to be that they are content not to contend until their big money contracts run out, rather than getting creative to improve the team now and/or reset their finances as quickly as possible. Reds have some good young players in their system, both at the MLB level and in the minors. It would be nice to see them really compete.
