I made this trade simply because Jon Heyman said the Mets have interest in Cruz. If the Nationals were to pay some of Cruz's remaining salary this would allow them to get some type of prospect in return, while also allowing the Mets to stay below the luxury tax as much as possible. The Nationals wouldn't get too much for a 41-year old rental, but William Lugo stuck out to me from the batch of Mets prospects around the 0.0 - 0.2 range. He's a 20 year old in Low-A who currently has a wRC+ 118. He's not highly touted, but he's doing well and it's worth a shot for the Nationals while not being that much of a sacrifice for the Mets.
