In this blockbuster deal, the Mariners get a 3B for next year, a couple of back end relievers, Shohei Ohtani, a young stud SP in Sandoval, and Taylor Ward who has been playing very well this year. The Angels sell everything in an attempt to get their rotation stable. They trade their ace, their #2, and, uh, 2 back end relievers, for Kirby, who is currently a #5.

This is the type of full on rebuild the Angels likely need to start over. Arte has capped payroll at $190 million. Can't have Trout and Rendon accounting for $75 million of that and expect to build a deep team. Kirby replaces Sandoval so no hit there. The bullpen arms are over priced for our stage of contention, Ward is good but not as good as he's been this year.
