Looks like a very good deal for Boston. Harrison has now been traded twice, and has seen his stock fall along the way, but maybe the Brewers think they can unlock something there. Durbin is now a solid 2-WAR-ish player. The other pieces more or less balance out.

“Looks” like a very good deal for Boston but how is the elbow? He had arthroscopic elbow surgery Oct. 30. I’m always worried about trading for guys without an established record. Seen plenty of them that go right off the cliff after their first partial season. I’m not opposed to or hate the trade but I think this is a weak trade for the Sox. I don’t think it’s much of an upgrade from their internal options. I don’t understand all the love for Durbin. I get that he’s young, but his numbers weren’t THAT good. Apparently Milwaukee agrees. Like all trades, only time will tell. Breslow really missed out on helping/adding to the offense.

Wow! What a Breslow coup! An instant star for five years for more expendable parts. Hamilton was fun to watch with his speed, but the RS have too many lefties. Harrison mediocre pitcher or raw talent? Drohan is a shot in the dark. Another smaller RS trade has to occur with too many players!

I feel like this might be a mix of Durbin being slightly overrated and the SP prospects in the Brewers mind being underrated... Brewers are an organization that have been able to get the best out of pitchers so I wouldn't be surprised to see the pitchers in question double in value by mid season... Durbin is a baseball player so Boston should like him

moonslav59

I was hoping the Sox could get a more proven 3Bman, but this looks great!

queensburykid

Your comment is overreaching. A more proven inflieder like Marte would have cost more money and prospects. 2.8 WAR is certainly good enough.

Think he'll play second considering thats where he had most reps in the minors and seen as his best position. Mayer/Story on the left side

As a Brewers fan, yikes. Durbin isn't going to be winning MVP awards, but he's a good glove at 3rd, gets on base, has decent speed and surprising pop...but the biggest thing is his penchant for the "big hit." Congrats to the Red Sox. You got a good baseball player and from what I've heard a good locker room guy (barring his arguing with Ortiz over pop-ups lol). Mona is a GREAT locker room presence that can hit a little bit and play almost any position. Sure looks like a coup for the Sawks...only makes sense if the Brewers announce a trade for Parades in the next couple days...

branden800

Fair but he really is a second baseman and he was never gonna get that with the Brewers. And a league average bat at 3rd is not ideal

Radguy1992

I see this as the Brewers trading high on a young undersized rookie for some more pitching to tinker with as well as clearing some roster space

The trade moved the Red Sox projected position player WAR from 23.1 to 23.9 on Fangraphs. That was enough to jump the Red Sox from 17th overall to 16th, because the Brewers fell from 16th. Or, How about we word it this way.... After the trade the Red Sox now ranked 6th in total projected WAR in all of baseball. The trade jumped them over the Phillies and Orioles.
