Up votes for both. Boston saves some cash and clears a pair of 40 man spots while Chicago rolls the dice on a pair of hard throwing arms. Maybe they can flip Hicks at the deadline.
I know Red Sox fans all hope moving some cash & freeing up two spots on the 40 man is a sign of a bigger move to come but I feel as though I’ve been fooled in the past and it’s just another move of tinkering around with the edges of the roster. But I’d be on board with bringing on 3B Suarez & SP Valdez to fill the two vacant spots on the 40 man. More likely this move was all about ducking under the second LT line to preserve their place in the draft. 💰 😃
White Sox receiving 2 PTBNL’s with the Red Sox also receiving a PTBNL seems very strange and odd. Question; I know a PTBNL can not be a player from the 40 man roster but can a rule 5 selected player be the PTBNL, is there a loophole? The White Sox made 2 selections in the rule 5 draft, 1 from Boston, RHP Paez and the other from Tampa, RHP Alberto. The Red Sox made a trade with the Athletics for their selection of RHP Watson from SF. Could Watson be 1 of the 2 the Red Sox send and could Alberto be the 1 the Red Sox receive?
And then near the end of the allowed time frame (6 months I think) send Alberto back as the 2nd PTBNL?

Addition by subtraction- Hicks was terrible and simply shedding the cash and giving those innings to a league average pitcher makes them a better team.
They were well below the 3rd threshold, which is the one they would of had to cross to have their picks move down.
