3The Rays can't stand still. They either need to buy or sell. I think the system is complete trash, so trading it away to get young controllable MLB talent is much better than winning 80 games with an empty farm and an old MLB team. If you aren't trading Yandy, then you're buying. If you aren't buying a Walls/Palacios/Fortes/Mullins/Lowe replacement then you're selling. But you can't run it back with the same bullshit team you've had for the previous 2 years, only this time without your All Star 2nd baseman, your closer, and without a stacked farm waiting to supplement the MLB squad. This AAA squad couldn't supplement the Yokohama Bay Stars. Buy, sell, doesn't matter, but it's time to piss or get off the pot.
I like the concept but I don’t see the reason to overpay. Dollander was awful last year and while I think he should still be seen as a promising talent, I wouldn’t give up $40MM for him AND overpay to boot.
I would agree if I thought any player here was valued appropriately. Lowe has no value, Guerrero and Isaac have minimal value, Gillen is nice but he's being valued as a top 20 overall prospect, which he isn't. Dollander was horrible last year, like bottom 10% of everything statcast measures. I think this is a fair trade. $35-40M in value going each way.
