5Site cites Cleveland overpay. Maybe not as much as Caminero for Tobias Meyer
This deal doesn't make any sense for Cleveland....
Sure it does. First off, trading Arias for Donavan improves the Offense. Arias fits utility role for STL. Move Rocchio to SS. I'd rather have him than Arias but you could quibble, even interchange them. OK, trade Rocchio, keep Arias. Play Donavan at 2B until Bazanna or someone is ready. Donavan is versatile. Walker is upside upgrade as RH batter over Rodriguez. He surely is strong candidate as bounce back toward potential. Finding RH batting RF who is MLB is not easy. Walker is good play. Manzardo is value piece but not special to Cleveland. Clearly hits decent but just as clearly is below average defensive 1B. Kayfus is better 1B. Manzardo gums up DH flow. Cleveland has DeLauter, Valero etc from LH. for OF. plus Donavan. Schneeman has versatility but is a redundant piece and 29? Martinez could work there. Especially , Who would play 3B when Jose DH ? as I stated earlier, keep Arias to be 3B backup. I just threw Peterson on to up offer, soI admit I have no feel for him. So I see it as improvement. overall. It doesn't really matter to me if you agree.
Ill be blunt... I think almost all Cleveland fans would completely and utterly disagree with your take... First off Donovan is a below average defensive player at all positions... His best two are 2B/LF... LF is taken and 2B they have as an open competition plus the dude cannot hit left handers, so he doesn't solve Cleveland's biggest issue... Schneemann is a plus defender at multiple positions hence why he was a gold glove finalist... Arias is a plus SS... Peterson is as durable as durable can be as a SP... He's not a hard thrower but plus command and almost never walks batters... Also, you are forgetting Cleveland had a horrible offense last season. Manzardo was one of the few that was decent and you would be trading him for a guy with way less control... Donovan had a 119 OPS+ with 10 HRs... Manzardo had a 110 OPS+ with 27 HRs... They would want to be adding Donovan to Manzardo... Now, I agree Manzardo is not a good fielder, but losing his bat in place of Donovan's doesn't actually help this roster, if anything this deal destroys their depth as well...
Now, if they could get Walker, i think they should... And JRod is badly overrated on here, Rodriguez may be able to hit, but his fielding is so bad, id rather have a random fan in RF than him...
