7Love that it’s the Buccos that are the “win-now” team in the deal
Pirates did great and Brito is a stud. But the Astros would be lucky to get a 5th starter out of Burrows
I think Mason Montgomery is an extremely valuable reliever, and that's why there's such a disparity. I don't think this is a slam dunk for the Rays by any means. BLowe could be a 4 win 2b next year, Mangum could be a 2-3 win OF for the next few years, and I think Montgomery develops into a premier reliever. Hits triple digits, 90th percentile whiff% and K%.
I don't like the trade. We shipped a franchise player to Antarctica and Jake McGee with secondaries and got one more slap dick outfielder that I couldn't give a fuck about. Took him till he was 25 years old in the minor leagues to finally have an above average season, and he did it over 150 plate appearances before going to the show and shitting the bed. Can't believe we decided to sign Cedric Mullins for 7 million which meant that we had to trade Lowe cuz he makes nine and a half. Just once I would like a rays inner circle Hall of famer like Brandon Lowe not get traded for bullshit just because he only has one year of control left. You know who else only has one year of control left? Cedric fuckin Mullins!
I didn’t like the Fraley or Mullins deals (really didn’t like the Fraley deal), but at least the Mullins deal made sense if the Rays were going to compete this year. Then we learned the Rays had a self-imposed spending limit of $85MM and we all knew the Mullins signing meant B.Lowe was gone. I get why they wanted to trade Lowe (injuries and lower production), but Mullins isn’t exactly a game changer. Now we’ve got Palacios at 2B, Walls at SS, a collection of below 100 wRC+ bats at catcher and the outfield, and a rotation that just swapped Baz for Seymour or Boyle (which I know you don’t think is a big deal but it is). This team is looking like a 70 win team right now and could easily be a 100 loss team if they suffer key injuries next year. Soooo, remind me again why they signed Fraley and Mullins.
That's not a little steep for Melton?
I only kinda like this trade for the Rays. Melton doesn’t appear to have an above average bat and Brito may not have the size to start. If I’m wrong on both accounts then this trade looks really good. Like you, I think the Rays players being traded are pretty good. Has the rebuild begun???
