4I do like Shaw's upside and was wondering what a trade package might look like if the Cubs were to go aggressively after Bregman. Marsh is no Tucker, but he would mitigate his loss and Luzardo would help the rotation. If I'm the Cubs though, I may be hesitant to give up 5 years of control of Shaw for just one year of Luzardo and 2 of Marsh after giving up extra control of Paredes and Smith in the Tucker deal.
Phils open up 2 new holes and does Matt Shaw definitely fill one of those? I don't think we can definitely say that he could. Its hard to find positives to Shaws rookie year.
It wouldn't be done in isolation. I thought of this with the reports that the Cubs showed interest in Bregman and the Phillies were inquiring about Imai. Also the indications art that Crawford will be getting a spot in the OF. Crawford and Marsh are redundant players to have in the same lineup. Neither bring plus power, through Marsh clearly has more power. Both have speed and athleticism that let them play CF, but neither are a CFer. I don't see a Crawford, insert CF, and Marsh combo in the OF working from a production standpoint. Shaw did have some growing pains last year but still looks to be a 20/20 guy with a better glove than what the Phillies have at third, and projection to be much more. He'd bring some balance with a RH bat (hit 6 of his 13 hr in 100AB vs LHP) and is only 24. People are high on Miller and saying he can step in for Bohm if they trade him this offseason, but Shaw put up even better numbers and was rated higher.
Can't disagree with anything there. Appreciate the reply!
