I would do this if I was the Phillies although I doubt the Padres do it.

That is 490M of commitments coming off the books for the Padres and would put the Phillies in a situation where they have 6 contracts running to 2030 or beyond in Turner (2033), Haper (2031), Sanchez and Nola (2030) then Tatis (2034) and Bogarts (2033). It would help the Phillies in 2026 and 27 but would be better for the Padres long term as they could be looking to clear the books a bit for a sale. If I'm the Phillies I actually am the one saying no.
