“Gutting the lineup?” Clarke, Butler, Thomas and Bolte in the OF. Wilson (a future batting champ), Nick Kurtz (ROY), DeVries, SS #1 A’s prospect/#3 MLB. in IF. Rooker, dh, with 3 straight 30 HR seasons. Yeah, the A’s lineup is gutted. Grove you are just too risk adverse to making any trade.
If there is any gutting, it is in the Reds starting rotation. But, to get quality you must give up quality.
Risk averse and/or of the opinion that Greene is grossly over-rated and thus, over-valued. I wouldn't swap Soderstrom for Greene straight up, much less add other pieces.
