Why are the Rays giving up so much extra value here?

CCMosley

If roles were reversed would you accept this offer if you were the White Sox GM? Honestly I wouldn't, Morgan is overvalued and Palacios is a throw in so it's basically Teel for Hopkins who's not even a top 100 prospect, they don't need Williams cause of Montgomery, maybe Gillen they'd want, they already have some good young pitching on the way, if Isaac or Taylor had had healthy or better seasons I think they'd be really interested in them but this return of no top 100 prospects I don't believe would entice them much

Why is Morgan overvalued? He hit 158 wRC+ across 3 levels last year and 119 wRC+ in AAA last year, and he provides elite defense in the field. I see a prime Christian Walker in his future. Hopkins should be in the Top 100 next year, and in any event he’s the Rays top pitching prospect. Palacios may be a throw in for Chicago, but he might be the #1 option for 2B if the Rays trade B.Lowe. Sorry, but I could see a straight up Morgan for Teel trade but no way would I trade Hopkins and Palacios too. On a separate topic, why would we consider trading Williams? We literally have no one else who can play SS before 2030 in the entire system (other than Walls…shudder).

Omg anytime I wanted to trade for Walker you said he wasn't any good, lol Morgan just won't have enough power to be a full time 1B, he's similiar to the Loneys and Kotchmans were he'll be gold glove worthy but won't do enough damage with the bat to be a core player, he's valued at 20 but he also fell out of the top 100 too, I think Hopkins should have broken into the top 100 by now after last year, Palacios maybe the best option but that doesn't really mean he's good it just means he's a placeholder on a time in transition. So you really think a former top 100 prospect, an above average definsive LH catcher that's already played half a season and hit pretty well is equivalent to a non top 100 prospect, no power 1B? Come on, their GM would be fired before the ink dried, lol I would trade Williams cause #1 rule is Walls must play 😂 j/k but I'd trade him for Teel cause I am worried about him being a bust plus I think it would be easier to find a SS then it is to find a good defensive and offensive catcher, I'd prefer to keep Williams but to get Teel I would but with Montgomery having a pretty good season they are set at SS.

Did I say Walker wasn’t good or that I didn’t want to pay the cost (trade cost and salary) with Yandy on the team? In any event, Teel would be a great addition to the Rays, but I don’t want to overpay either. Even if you’re right that Morgan is overvalued, Hopkins is clearly undervalued if he’s a Top 100 prospect (as I believe), and I suspect Palacios’ value shoots up too once he plays a month or so healthy. So net-net we return to this trade being an overpay.

Hopkins is now ranked as the Rays #1 prospect according to Baseball America.

CCMosley

Yea I figured he would probably jump Gillen, do they have Williams graduating off the list or did they drop him in the order? Looking down the barrel of a season of Fortes and Feduccia you still wouldn't trade Hopkins and a 1B who'll max out at 6 hrs for Teel? Lol side note, I still really like Driscoll, if he had been able to get back on the field last year I'd been fine with him as the #2 catcher going into 2026
