The Red Sox are shopping Jarren Duran for another ace pitcher to put behind Garrett Crochet in a playoff role. Cole Ragans fills that billet. In return for Ragans, the Royals get two affordable players and two excellent prospects. For their weak OF, they get speedster Duran, almost exactly as valuable as Ragans by himself, plus flexible SP/RP Garrett Whitlock. Luis Perales is Boston's 4th or 5th prospect and their 1st or 2nd-best starting pitching prospect, with a plus splitter and cutter as well as a fastball that sits 96-98 mph topping out at 100. Perales is coming back from TJ surgery, and all looks good for a return in September or October. Finally, Noah Song is finally all the way back from his development lost due to military service, posting a 1.40 ERA at three MiLB stops this year. The Red Sox get the star pitcher they need. The Royals get the outfielder they need, another young MLB-proven pitcher, and two excellent pitching prospects, all at reasonable salaries for a small-market team.
