Red Sox turn their fourth outfielder into a very good starting pitcher with team control, another good bullpen arm with experience working with Aroldis, and a LHP with a 3.11 ERA in AAA this year. Pirates get an actual bat and can finally free themselves from the shackles of the Jack Suwinski/Alexander Canario experience.

I like this trade idea, but the non-competive Pirates trading for Duran seems totally unrealistic.

Goal here for the Pirates is to get MLB-caliber bats for a potential playoff push in ‘26 and beyond. The pitching is good enough—Skenes, Falter, Bednar, Ashcraft, Jones when he comes back from injury. But the only major-league-level bats the Pirates have right now are Andrew McCutchen, Nick Gonzales, and maybe Spencer Horwitz. That won’t cut it if the Bucs want to capitalize on the Skenes window. Adding Duran puts a hammerlock on LF at PNC for the next few years, and more importantly, helps to solve the Pirates’ hitting woes in the short and medium term.
