3The Orioles get a mid rotation starter they lack for 3 more seasons. Cardinals get a corner infielder with power potential that they lack.
Well, Mayo is a first baseman only. Contreras is there for the Birds. Now, I agree, the Cards are paying $18M/yr for a 117 OPS+ Catcher, not a 1B, but Herrera is going to have to play somewhere and his 140ish OPS+ would make the 1B lineup stronger than Willson, so no.
Actually, most of Mayo's games as a professional have been at 3B. He has played primarily 1B in the majors due to need.
