1Decent trade idea here. Pirates, in my estimation, would likely play Mayo either at 1B in a platoon with Horowitz or as an everyday LF (3B is off the table, as I don’t think they’ll want to move the Gold Glover Hayes off his everyday fielding job). LF seems likelier to me, and then you can just DFA Pham, who’s been struggling mightily all year (supposedly due to contact lens issues). But if I’m the O’s, I honestly don’t know if I’d want to become a buyer right now. Mullins and O’Hearn are FAs at the end of the year, which opens up the first base job for ‘26 (which Mayo can compete for). Mansolino’s still getting started as manager. Yes, the starting pitching is putrid, but I don’t see the point in making a play for one of the better SPs on the trade market during a season when you’re 33-44 and dead last in your division. Plus, the Yankees could just outbid you.
