Down vote for the A's. I'm a big believer in Liranzo's bat and the A's have always been willing to accept certain defensive issues behind the plate. But Perez isn't going to send Denzel Clarke to the bench; much less Butler or Soderstrom. Hao-Yu Lee looks more like a back-up MI than a 3B and that makes him redundant in the A's system. I wonder if the A's would be interested in Jace Jung? I haven't heard much about his defense recently, so I don't know if he's destined for a move off the hot corner or not.

Jung looked very good defensively early this spring in Detroit, his bat just didn't wake up so he was sent down to work on his offense. He has plenty of power in his left handed bat (which I believe the A's could use) and it has showed up in AAA but he's working on it back in Toledo. He did win a minor league Gold Glove at 2nd in 23' so he can pick it and his arm showed well at 3rd this spring. Wenceel is a switch hitter but much more effective as a LHH and can play all 3 OF positions which is probably his value as a 4th OF or platoon guy. You are right, he is not replacing Butler, Clark or Soderstrom but he has some sneaky pop and speed so he is very useful. I was trying to line up useful LHH for the A's. And Liranzo has a cannon behind the plate and his defense is coming along very well. The Tigers also have Briceno which he is not as good defensively but a better hitter possibly, but he may end up at 1st which the A's do not need. Lee is a 2nd baseman more than likely, but one that has very good power. Max Anderson is listed as a 2nd baseman as well, but he is defensively below average even there but is just killing the ball with 10 HR already and a .340 clip at AA, kind of like a Altuve with a ways to go on defense. I was also looking at SP but most of the Tiger talent is already on the 40 man and likely contributors this year or needed depth. Hamm and Melton are decent SP prospects but not really close to be able to help the A's very soon. Clark's catch by the way was possibly the best that I have ever seen.

The A's like big arms on their Catchers, blocking and framing can be a work in progress. They're trending towards more overall hitting ability than pure thump so Jung's bat would be judged in that regard. The key is his glove. They won't care if they see him as a 2B and not a 3B. If he's of interest, it's to play 3B. And they like to gamble on former 1st round picks that haven't really established themselves. I would say Liranzo + Jung the 3B + a pitcher like Melton (bigger guy, hard fastball) would appeal if they put Miller on the Trade Block. That might be a tad rich for Detroit, so maybe a farther away pitcher with similar traits would suit both sides. The thing that was so impressive to me about Clark's catch was how far he had to stretch away from his body because the ball had some slice. His bat has a way to go but catches like THAT buy him a lot of time.

Ms. Dajuba

I’d be interested/curious to know how teams front offices are looking at Catchers with the new ball and strikes system hopefully being implemented in ‘26. Catch the ball, block the ball, throw the ball, good glove, good arm, good pop time, who should care about framing anymore.

I'm convinced the A's believed that Robo Umps would already be in place because the big knock on Langeliers was his framing. Which doesn't matter with ABS in the game.
