6Kim's emergence at short has made this trade plausible and instead of moving Tatis to the outfield get an actual outfielder instead with high talent and upside in Arozarena. Padres get an immediate front of the rotation starter in Rasmussen and a high rated prospect in Bradley to replace some of their aging pitching depth. Clevinger and Manea are gone and Darvish and Snell are close to the end of their contracts. Rays sell high on Arozarena and look to move on from him after his debacle with Yandy Diaz late in the season conflicting with the clubhouse chemistry. Glasnow coming back is an upgrade over the loss of Rasmussen and Taj Bradley is a not as high an upside as Baz and McClanahan as far as past pitching prospects go and with the Ray's ability to develop pitching feel ok in doing this. Rays need star players as the reliance on utility/platoon bats has killed them in the postseason. Tatis is a hall of famer with immaturity issues that may need a change of scenery and in low key Tampa next to Wander could form a dynamic duo to build a potent rays lineup for years to come. I could see putting Tatis at third base and moving Diaz to first who's great bat gets overlooked sometimes by awful defense at third. Overall the Ray's need to add an elite bat with Brandon Lowe's question marks and Tatis still has a reasonable salary for them. Padres effectively replaced Tatis with Soto and a lot of the clubhouse may not want him back anyways. Rays have to overpay to make this work but see this as a buy low opportunity they can't afford to miss out on. Thoughts?
This trade would be a dream return for Tatis I think. It fills San Diego’s biggest hole to a T (starting pitching), but it also creates that same hole for the Rays. I think a better trade would see Ras or Bradley come out in lieu of high leverage closer Fairbanks. Padres’ Pen could use some help too and Fairbanks would make everyone better with him joining Hader at the back of the Pen. That swap also reduces the trade value imbalance, which seems a bit high considering all the issues facing Tatis. I love the idea of the Rays adding Tatis though.
padres wouldnt take fairbanks. I'm unsure about rasmussen to be honest. maybe glasnow or mead instead.
Mead then. Rays aren't trading Glasnow.
A package of arozarena, bradley and mead sounds really good as a padres fan.
It should sound good. It's too rich for my blood (on behalf of the Rays).
