No cash sent from Ray's. It's there to allow trade

This is an interesting trade from the Rays perspective. On the one hand, they desperately need a franchise catcher and long-term answer at SS. Ford is great at the plate, but do the Rays think he’s good enough behind the plate? That’s the question. Celesten is having a bit of a down year in comparison to last year, but he’s the toolsy SS I dream about. I’d love to get both Ford and Celesten into the Rays system. But the cost…. I don’t care about losing Fairbanks and Seymour. Aranda though…. For folks who have watched him play for the past 3-4 years, we know he’s having a legit breakout year. We see him hitting both LHP and RHP well, and we see his defense has taken a big step this year. I don’t think he’s anywhere close to being fairly valued right now, because his track record isn’t long enough (and because his years of control are 1 year less than he has). I really don’t want to give him up. But I want Ford and Celesten. What to do, what to do….

That's why no cash. If the Ray's don't value his catching as much or value Aranda more. Plus I figure the Ray's have 2 1st base prospects that aren't far away

Yes, they do. T.Morgan and X.Isaac, both lefties (as is Aranda) and both having success in the minors. Aranda isn’t totally off limits, but I’d want at least $50MM for his 4.5 years of control. So for me the question is how much a bump should Ford get for his stellar 2025. I can easily see $30-40MM if his defense has improved with his bat being so good in AAA. That would be a fair deal in my opinion for Aranda, Fairbanks and Seymour. You know what, I think I’ve talked myself into this deal.

Haha MP. I think a lot of M's fans won't like the trade. But the M's also have Young, Emerson and Arroyo that could handle the infield. Aranda is a bat the M's are missing
