The Rays bullpen has been surprisingly bad this year. Bird and Halvorsen immediately become the 2nd and 3rd best relievers. The Rays outfield is Josh Lowe and a half dozen left handed 4th outfielders. Doyle's metrics say he's still a completely average bat, and has been treated to some poor luck this year. A defensive whiz in CF, he is Taylor Walls if Taylor Walls could hit league average.

I don't know how the Rays outfield logjam resolves itself (though I have my opinions), but I'm pretty confident in saying the Rays will not be trading for another outfielder. J.Lowe is looking like an everyday player in RF. Misner is providing above average (if not elite) defense at CF while providing a bit more offense than we are used to at the position, and that should improve if/when Deluca returns and allows for more platooning at CF. Say what you will about Simpson's bat being light and his defense being bad (I've said plenty), but the guy is electric on the bases and I think the Rays are going to keep forcing him into the lineup. That leaves Deluca as the 4th outfielder, if he ever returns to health, Cabby as the 5th outfielder who also plays infield, and I think that's a pretty good outfield across the board. I'm also high on Mangum, because he hits for average, plays good defense and has an energy to him every bit as exciting as Simpson, but I think he's odd man out and wastes away in Durham. Morel and Palacios get traded at some point, with Palacios being traded only because all 3 of the starting outfielders are lefties. There's no room for Doyle, and frankly, I don't think he's a better player than Misner. He's been in the league 3 years now, with 2 atrocious years at the plate and one passable year at the plate. He's never hit above 100 wRC+ and he would have to morph into B.Lowe on a hot streak to even sniff 100 wRC+ this year. Lucky or unlucky, he's more T.Walls at the plate than I think any Rays fan wants to see added to the roster. He has been a good outfielder, but this year ain't his year. DRS gives him a -4 in the field, while OAA only gives him a 3 over 374 innings. On the other hand, Misner has a 95 wRC+, a 0.9 fWAR and 2 DRS and 3 OAA over 234 innings. The Rays Pen is awful and it could use reinforcements, but the outfield is fine as-is and would actually be worse with Doyle. Sorry Shaq.
