1This would be a very weird trade if it went down, as the Rays acquired Caballero from the Mariners 2 years ago. Cabby is a jack-of-trades utility man who plays 2B, SS, 3B and all outfield positions for the Rays, but his best position is 3B in my opinion. He is an elite 3B in the field, and pairing his defense with a 100-110 wRC+ bat should result in a 2-4 fWAR player (he's on pace for 2.7 fWAR right now). I think he would see a jump in trade value as a full time 3B, which he can't be with the Rays because of Junior Caminero, and from what I've heard of Seattle, they need a 3B (and probably wouldn't hate to have a good SS backup either). The price for Cabby is Ford, who is having a very good year in AAA and is probably undervalued himself. Ford would just be a backup with Seattle, so he should be expendable for the right return, and the Rays desperately need a franchise catcher. Not sure if this trade works for either team, but I kind of like it.
