6I don't think this gets a second glance from Cleveland. They don't need McClain. They need Clase. not even close is my take.
Cleveland needs legit bats... But Cleveland for Cleveland, this isn't near enough... Rumors would state a top 100 SP prospect plus McLain plus a couple more mid tier or higher prospects...
I respectfully disagree with rumors or whoever thinks this. While Clase is great and all that he still is a reliever. McLain may have a slow start to the season since he missed all of last season that's why his value is low at the moment. He has all the potential to be a great player and has already shown it. Now the Reds could sure use a closer but they also really need hitting. IMHO Clase is a luxury for the Reds because they probably are not (again) contending for the wild card. So I would not trade McLain straight up for Clase.
Honestly, when it comes to the Guardians, I got a bit of a connection so I am usually in tune with things and from what i heard is that Cleveland wanted a Top 100 SP prospect for Clase plus some last year... I heard Cleveland wouldnt do a deal unless Horton was in it when to came to the Cubs... Cleveland likely hasn't lowered the want for the top 100 prospect and they need a proven MLB bat since they can make the playoffs this season. I dont see anyone paying the price the Guardians FO wants...
I am sure you are correct. Depending on a teams need and how desperate they are for a closer I think they could get a top 100 and a MLB bat for sure. My only point for the Reds this trade would not makes sense. McLain is young, cost controlled and a very high ceiling. Anyway fun to play this game. Have a good one.
As a Guardians' fan I agree with you. The Reds seem like an outside shot to make the playoffs and this deal seems like it would be robbing Peter to pay Paul in a sense. From Cleveland's perspective it just isn't enough. Especially when Schneemann is performing as well or better than McClain. No, I don't think Schneemann is worth as much as McClain, but giving up Clase for a lateral or even minor upgrade makes no sense either.
