8Definitely not enough for Cleveland back in this deal...
Long hit .340 in AA last year. .338 in the AZL. He’s hitting .364 at AAA this year with a .981 OPS. He’s not some throw in, as his 2.8 BTV would have some believe. Wiggins will be a major league starter. Caissie could start right now. Too many cheaper relievers, like Bender with Marlins, available. Cubs say no.
SC Read up on Kayfus. Undrafted out of h.s. 3rd rounder out of college. B prospect? Definitely not an A-lister. Long was second all-time to Jeff Leifer in career home runs at Long Beach State. 9th rounder. Maybe because he profiles more as a DH. But he can play an okay 1B and a little 3B. Kayfus plays 1B. Has a 15.3 BTV eval. Long has a 2.8. You used the word "insult," not me. Just like you want get top price for Clase, I don't give away Cubs prospects at bottom barrel prices. Caissie is in the same boat. MLB.com has Caissie ranked higher than Chourio. Both are in the top 100. FanGraphs has Chourio at 50 FV, Caissie at 45. Caissie has more power. Plus, he has an accurate, rocket arm in RF. John rates Chourio 17.1 higher. At this rate of return, I will stand pat, too.
i hear ya, but to get top end talent, you got to part with top end prospects. clase was the best closer, by far, last year. having some struggles this year, but will get it figured out. the problem with prospects, is just that. some players are superstars in aaa and do nothing in the bigs.
kzeke I couldn't agree with you more about the riskiness of prospects. It's just that I believe every club and GM (real or imaginary) has a right to set a value on its own players. SC believes that Clase is still a 60, and that's his right. Long is not a total unknown, as I've pointed out above, but he is worth more to me than 2.8, so I would prefer to hold onto him than trade him. Ditto for Wiggins and Caissie.
FYI, Wiggins was a 2nd rounder. He would've gone 1st round, except he was coming off TJ surgery. This is his first full season back. He's in A+ ball. 1.71 ERA. 26 innings 31 SO's and only 13 hits allowed. His BTV is 2.8. Need I say more?
i see your point. for sure, the cubs would be the one on the fence for this one. cleveland and miami would jump all over this trade.
Kayfus is actually outhitting Long (not joking, Kayfus may be hard to keep off the MLB roster)... But Long doesn't have a track record nor pedigree as a prospect, but if he's still hitting like that, a 2ish value is definitely an insult... Cleveland wouldn't take this anyways, cause they are going to be like, if it ain't 60, we ain't coming to the discussion table... They don't want to move Clase at all...
