4I don't think Dane Myers has anywhere close to this value. The .380 BABIP last year and .425 this year isn't sustainable for anyone. But I could conceivably buy he is a slightly better than league average bat with well above average CF defense. He's 29 year old, so the speed will go soon. What's that worth? I don't think 30MM in excess value, but I have no interest in Mead or Morel being a Ray anymore, so I do this trade. The Marlins are getting 2 guys who a year ago were highly sought after, and a recent 2nd rounder. This is the type of trade the Marlins should make, moving a 29 year old on a hot streak for 24 year olds playing poorly.
It's going to be an interesting trade deadline and offseason for the Rays I think. They really should trade everyone who won't be a Ray in 2028, because I'm thinking a lockout after the 2026 season is a certainty. Plus, the Rays aren't very good and I don't think they're going to be all that good in 2026, regardless of the moves they make in the next 10 months. And lets not forget they don't have a stadium to play in beyond 2028 and might be looking to start out with a bang in a new city around 2029/2030. I wouldn't be surprised to see some "surprising" trades made in the next 10 months. So with all that said, this trade doesn't excite me much. Curious how you see the overall situation though Shaq.
Just saw this response. Sorry for my tardiness. Hopefully you will be able to still see this.
I'm to the point where I consider this a lost season, and it isn't salvageable. Too many home losses, too many underperformances, too many failed trades and failed prospects. Caminero is really, really bad at way more things than he should be. He was a AAA SS a year ago, so how the fuck is he the worst defender in baseball this year? He's slow, lacks effort, can't draw a walk, swings at anything remotely close to the zone (even his grand slam was 6 inches off the plate). Caminero is young, I get it, but let me know when his OPS gets over .700. Til he's capable of that with all his other shortcomings and his youth, he should probably head down to Durham and work on his defense, effort, and swing. Mead is not capable defensively or offensively of anything remotely close to what we would need a RH platoon bat to be. Our Aussie is a lost cause as a bench bat capable of playing multiple IF positions. I hoped Simpson would be the CF for years to come, but he is impassable even as a left fielder. I hoped Baz and Taj were the new Price and Shields, but they've both been huge prospect busts. I said pre-season everything I've seen from Baz tells me he's a middle reliever, and that's still what I see. For the few weeks he was successful, he was locating the curve, but teams have made the adjustment. I hoped I would be right about Morel, but those who bemoaned the trade (you) were sadly right. I hoped Carson Williams would supplant Taylor Walls at some point, but he's doing his best 2024 Javy Baez impression and looks years away from being anything more than a defensive replacement. I hoped Josh Lowe would stop getting injured. I thought BLowe was still young enough to anchor a good offense, but he is not the player he was 3 years ago. Diaz can't draw a walk and hits too many 110 MPH 3 hoppers to the SS. Fairbanks doesn't strike anyone out any more. Uceta turned back into a pumpkin. I really could go on, but as you know, it's not a few poor performances. The players we've traded for stink, the players we traded are good, and the players we kept...well, we shouldn't have kept. Randy is having the best year of his career, Paredes is having the best year of his career, Jason Adam is having the best year of his career, and Aranda is the only Ray in MLB or AAA that has exceeded my expectations. We made no adjustments to the lineup to cater to the new field. System wide failures, and heads should roll. I have no confidence in this confederacy of dunces to handle the trade deadline, and we can't put a rebuilding team on the field in our return to the Trop. I really would not be bothered if we moved on from some decision makers and some of our teachers. When every trade misses and every player regresses, somebody needs to be in the unemployment line. This team is such a shitshow, I don't even know what moves I would make. You can trade Diaz, BLowe, Fairbanks, Mead, and Morel, but you'd have to choose between a bag of balls and a ham sandwich as your return. Immediate moves I'd make, cause you gotta shaqe it up: DFA Rortvedt, Caminero and Baz to AAA, give Mead 3 weeks starting everyday at 3rd, Simpson to CF and Morel starting everyday in LF, Ian Seymour joins the MLB rotation. I don't believe Mead or Morel will be successful, but in a lost season, these are the types of players I would seek out, so you might as well play them and see if consistent PA bumps their confidence and yields different results. I put it out there that Diaz and Fairbanks are going to be traded, and don't wait too long to get your offer in, because it might be tomorrow. I still think Tanner Murray is a future MLB regular, and wouldn't be surprised to see him replace BLowe if they can move BLowe for the right deal. This whole thing is just a clusterfuck, and the sooner we go about fixing it the better, because the status quo hasn't worked since 2022.
