4We'll see...but one consideration is to not do that and to get in return a player with more years of control who can help you right away. Of course you probably need a 3B so maybe you can expand the trade to include Muncy or you sign Justin Turner. It also means that Boston wouldn't have to be involved in the SS frenzy. The Dodgers would have to go out resign Turner or one of the other SSs.
Devers will sign an extension with Boston.
Scott Boras is not Devers' agent, so it should be easier for the two sides to get an extension figured out. JT will most likely retire. We have Chris Taylor and future prospect Michael Busch who can play third base.
Depends on the player and his expectations on future value. Not all players are willing to sign reasonable extensions no matter who their agent is. Further, signing Devers to an extension may work better for the team that just won 110 games as opposed to the team that just won 75. Chris Taylor is going to play 2B for the Dodgers. They do have Vargas, Busch and Muncy to play 3B but they aren't as good as Devers and you can put those guys at OF/DH and move Thompson and Bellinger to the bench or to another team.
