I know that Yankee fans don't really like Torres. So to help NY out, they would get a much better defensive shortstop in J.P Crawford. Penn Murfee was a sold bullpen reliver for Seattle so it could help the Yankees bullpen. The Yankees would have to sacrifice Dominguez in this trade. So the Yankees would have a better shortstop or they could place J.P at second base since they have Peraza at shortstop. The M's would get a potential good hitter that plays OF a position the M's need. Although his eta is 2024, the M's wouldn't have to deal with signing an OF in free agency.

I wouldn't say Yankees fans don't like Torres. He's come up short of the very high expectations set for him, but he's still a good option at 2B. He had the 3rd most HR and 3rd most RBI by a 2B in 2022 while playing decent defense. Expectations for him were sky high because he hit 38 HR with a juiced ball (and the old Camden Yards dimensions), but he's settled in as a nice 2B. That said, I could see the Yankees trading Torres this offseason since they have the depth at the position to get value elsewhere. This deal doesn't make sense though. First off, the Yankees already have some really good options at 2B: DJ LeMahieu, Oswaldo Carbera, Oswald Peraza. Second off, the Yankees don't need a SS in return. 2 of their top prospects are SS and Cabrera can slide into that roll. Given the Yankees just passed up on one of the best SS free agent classes because they have faith in their prospects, I don't see them trading for Crawford. And finally, this deal requires getting rid of Dominguez, a guy who falls into the class of 'untouchable' by the organization. There hasn't been a willingness to part with him for guys like Castillo or Olson, he certainly isn't going to be moved for Crawford. I'm also not sure if the Mariners would make this move. Not as familiar with the organizational depth but Crawford is a big part of their team now and this leaves them with a hole at a valuable position mostly for a prospect that's likely 2 years from debuting.
