3I just can't believe the Mariners are going to go into the season with Ryan Bliss at 2B and only 3 lefties on the active roster (L.Raley, Crawford and the switch-hitting Raleigh). I guess Shenton and Canzone might make the team and add 1-2 more lefties, but counting on them to hit well is probably a mistake (though I do like Shenton's potential). The smarter play would be to bring in a proven big LHB to even out the handedness of the team. This trade sees them do just that, adding B.Lowe to play 2B/1B/DH, at a cost of a very good 2B prospect in Arroyo, a heat throwing RP in Cranton, and a high risk/reward SP prospect in Navarro. I believe this is the kind of return that would get the Rays' interest in trading Lowe.
⚾️ Middle of January, 29 days to go for pitchers and catchers to report and the first spring training game is only 37 days away! How’s your team shaping up for the new season? 🌷
Rays could be done for the offseason or they could trade 1-2 more guys. Won't make much difference as far as the season goes.
