I can’t see the Rays trading away 6 years of Simpson at this point. Rays aren’t built to win titles in 2025, making Ramos less valuable to the Rays. Plus, Simpson could be really good and play a key role in their next window.

Ramos has 5 years of control and could also play a key role in the next good Rays team. They have good pitching and seem to always find a way to compete, even if they’re not expected to. But if they’re not built to win a title, why would they want to pay Lowe $10.5 million? Funnily enough, the Reds wanted Ramos when the Giants were asking on Billy Hamilton like 6 or 7 years ago. I like Simpson a lot, but he could wind up as just another Billy Hamilton. Useful player, but I’d have been mad if that’s all the Giants got for Ramos and he turned into an allstar at age 24. Feel like this offer is very fair, and one I’m not even convinced I would make, and I’m pretty confident the Giants wouldn’t make either. And hey, maybe the Rays would feel the same.

Fangraphs says Ramos has 4 years of control, and the Rays don't keep arb eligible players for very long. Ramos would be traded before the Rays become a contender again, while Simpson would just be hitting his prime. Look, I don't mind the Rays acquiring Ramos but it would have to be for the right trade return. Guys like B.Lowe, Diaz, Fairbanks, Cleavinger, and Littell won't be with the Rays when their next window opens and should be on the trade block. Prospects like Santana aren't going to be difference makers and can be traded. A guy like Simpson though ... nuh uh! He may average 1-2 fWAR annually for his career, but the smart money has him going on a better than Dee Gordon run at some point, with 3-5 years of 3-4 fWAR annually. Simpson won last year's minor league batting title, he gets on base at a nearly 40% clip, he hardly ever strikes out and he parlayed that OBP into over 100 SB in just 110 games. I expect him to do the same in the Majors during his best years (OBP between 35-40% and swiping nearly a bag a game played on average). On the other hand, Ramos might have just had his career year, and even if that isn't the case, he does not have Simpson type upside. As for the Rays' paying Lowe $10.5MM, well there's a couple reasons for that. For one, they have their total payroll down to the $60-70MM range, so they can afford both him and Diaz. Two, the Rays never tank. They reboot with teams capable of winning 75-85 games, which is where this year's team lies. If they outperform, maybe they add at the deadline, otherwise, expect them to trade pitching at the Deadline. Third, Lowe has had injury issues over the past two years. For all we know, the Rays just haven't received an offer they like for his services and would rather hold on to him until they do. When he's on the field and healthy, he still puts up the highest per game WAR of any player on the team. Anyway, what do I know? Maybe the Rays would jump at this trade. I doubt it though.
