5Dang! This one is tempting, from an SF perspective. I really think Harrison is going to be stellar, though, so I think I have to say no. The speedster would be fun to see in action, and I like Lowe too. Maybe a bit extra (to even it up) would put it over the top.
As a Rays fan, I have a couple of thoughts on this trade. First, the Rays already have a 6 man rotation for 2025, with a deep group of AAA arms ready for the Show beyond the top 6. They would almost have to trade a pitcher if they added another MLB ready arm like Harrison. That makes this trade unlikely. Second, the Rays are very excited for Simpson. I still wonder if the hype is overblown, because he's said to not be a good fielder (he was moved to the outfield after being drafted and is still learning the position) and I worry that many of his groundball hits in the minors will turn into easy outs in the Majors with better fielding. Still, there is no denying he has excellent bat to ball skills (he won the minor league batting title after all) and he has ludicrous speed. Seriously, if you've never seen him run, it's like everyone is moving in slow motion around him he's so fast. He has 90 grade speed on the 80 grade chart. Lastly, it's hard for me to see the Rays trading their best bat and one of their top prospects for 1 player. It's just not how the Rays operate in the real world, even if an argument can be made that they should. All that said, I absolutely believe Lowe is available for the right price. It may be a high price, but with the Rays unlikely to make the post-season this year, they should be willing to listen to offers on him and Diaz.
I think as a Giants fan, that all makes a ton of sense. I read shortly after that they are very happy with their staff. Although, their rotation does have arms returning from injury, and you can never have enough pitching. I have a feeling they’d still be very interested in adding Harrison, and imo he’s the Giants best trade chip to land an impact bat right now. I’ve wanted Lowe for a while now and I’d love to see these sides get something done. Would also very much love to add that kind of speed in our ballpark. I do think with Harrison’s upside, this is a more than a fair trade, especially considering it saves the Rays over 10 million, but I can definitely understand if it wouldn’t be what they’re looking for at this time.
I like Harrison too and would love to see the Rays do some consolidation trades from time to time, but I rarely get what I want.
I think if S.F. could somehow land Sasaki, this is a no brainer for S.F., but I think I’d pull the trigger regardless (as a Giants fan). Not sure how Tampa and their fans would feel
