1This is the kind of trade the Rays should jump on for Yandy, as it gives them high upside prospects at areas of need (C, COF and pitching (everyone always needs pitching)). From the Mets standpoint, opting to trade for Yandy in lieu of resigning Alonso gives them the option of getting below the CBT. Aside from the tax savings of getting under the CBT, they would also benefit via the draft (and/or via the draft and international signing money if they sign a player in the future who received a QO). I know Mets fans want to see an Alonso reunion, but any contract they sign with Alonso is likely to be a bad contract, possibly in year 1 to say nothing of future years. His performance is in decline and he's not worth what the contract he is demanding. On the other hand, Yandy makes $10MM and puts up the same production as Alonso. He would also allow the Mets to sign Vladdy next year if they were so inclined.
