Mariners are getting national press now over their do-nothing offseason, with both CBS Sports and Bleacher Reports releasing negative reports on their offseason this week. It’s hard to argue with their logic too. The Mariners said they would spend a little this offseason and haven’t. The Mariners have 5 top middle infield prospects for 2-3 positions in 2-3 years time and refuse to trade anyone to improve their roster. They have a very good rotation and would arguably benefit the most from trading Castillo and redirecting his salary to other areas. At the end of the day, the Mariners talk the talk about wanting to win but they don’t walk the walk. This trade fills a couple holes on their team. Diaz brings a big bat that doesn’t strike out much and Lowe brings the big LEFTY bat the Mariners so desperately need. In return, they part with 2B Arroyo, SS Celesten and a good pitching prospect in Sloan. The trade hurts the Farm a bit but getting into the postseason the next two years before the rotation ages out makes it worth the cost.
