I don't think this trade makes a lot of sense for the Rays. The players they are trading make sense, but the return is just a jumble of players the Mariners might not want. The Rays have a good, deep bullpen already, and if they trade their two best bats in Diaz and Lowe their post-season odds drop to basically zero, so why would they want Santos? They will want guys for their next playoff window, which won't open until 2026 at the earliest. Then there is Logan Evans, who has weak stuff but decent control. All of the pitchers the Rays have acquired via trade over the past year have had elite stuff and poor control. That's what they appear to be targeting in trade, and Evans doesn't fit the bill. Ford and Peete are fine, though I prefer Arroyo and Celesten to Peete (and am willing to pay the cost to get them over Peete).

Ford and Peete are both guys the Rays have targeted over the years. Also the Rays aren’t going to compete this year and with the stadium issues they will probably be dumping payroll and thus motivated to get Diaz and Lowe off the payroll and open up spots in their crowded infield. Santos is a controlled RP who will be cheap into the Rays next contention window who they could probably then trade as a top closer in a couple years. Evans has some elite spin rate data on his fastball which is something both the Rays and Mariners value quite a lot so I thought the Rays might see him as a guy they can get a lot of value out of with that combined with his control and command.
