4At first glance, Cruz's value looks high. He's 34. But at the same time, he's been highly effective, his underlying peripherals are very strong, and he has five years of control. Looks like a steal for the Yankees.
Why does the league keep letting Cashman acquire controllable relievers with so-so results but elite stuff for absolute peanuts? Highway robbery.
Overpaying for a average-ish catcher with one year of control is a head scratcher. Could have just signed someone like Grandal. Wonder if the plan is to shift Stephenson to 1B and trade Candelario.
Apologies, we just realized that Cruz has four years of control, not five. His surplus value should have been listed as 10.7. Still high, but not nearly the overpay we first thought.
