13Looking for a new 3B for the A's.
Alright... I'll be blunt... Swapping Martinez for a solid SP prospect, isn't a bad idea for Cleveland, but... Estes isn't as good as the prospects they have in the minors and with the fact the Guardians upper minors with position players is mostly barren, this deal doesn't work for Cleveland... IF anyone is moved it will likely be Arias or Freeman... They are higher on Martinez than the national media believes... I feel like the A's would be better off staying in house for 25... They need the pitching more than position players looking at their prospect list...
Shoot... I'm MUCH higher on Martinez than Arias and Freeman! And from what I've read, I'd say the national media has more faith in Martinez than in Arias or Freeman.
With how Martinez did in his limited time in Cleveland last season and the fact he's willing to play anywhere, it would be hard for Cleveland to let him go... Plus I feel like As need Estes more than Martinez... Estes isn't likely someone Cleveland would move Martinez for... Cleveland adding 3-6 pitchers tomorrow... They have no position players to protect, so this is the wrong time for this swap from Cleveland's end...
The A's need a 3B and Joey Estes is crap with a bat in his hands. I think the Mets are the better trade partner... I'm just not sure I trust Brett Baty.
Problem is looking at their roster/prospect list, I know you know better than me, but with what 5 guys on the roster already that can play 3B, and Muncy at AAA... On paper, your SP depth right now looks worse than the INF depth... I know Cleveland would just let those guys play and see if any of them take it in 25...
Muncy would solve so many things... if he could stay healthy and perform consistently. He was supposed to be in the AFL but was still recovering. Hernaiz can do spot duty at the hot corner, Schuemann is best in a utility role, Harris has failed to hit. CJ Alexander and Alejo Lopez have yet to show they're anything other than AAAA filler.
The biggest question what does your SP depth look like?
Pretty good, actually. The A's are going to add up to 3 SP to the 40 man by tomorrow.
So essentially your plan is to swap one of those SP prospects for someone who could solidify something like 3B long term?
Estes has the most "disposable" value to solidify 3B. I think most teams like to take the guy that's shown some ability against big league hitters vs. taking a similar tier prospect talent.
I’d say keep looking
I have more faith in Martinez's bat than Baty/Schmitt. I have more faith in Schmitt's glove than Baty/Martinez. Baty has the highest ceiling and is likely the most available, with the Mets actively looking for pitching.
