I don't think Herrera is a good fit for the Rays. The Rays prize defense more than offense in their catchers. Unless the Rays think they can unlock a big increase in Herrera behind the plate, I can't see them being interested in him.

You may want a better defending catcher, and he might grow into one. What he is, is a .301/.372/.428, 124 OPS+ slashing RHB that CAN play catcher. How many of those do you guys have?

LOL. We have none, and I don't expect that to change. I'm not suggesting Herrera wouldn't make the Rays better. He probably would. However, the Rays put up with a sub 50 wRC+ catcher for most of the year because they put so little stock in the offensive output of the catcher position. It drives Rays' fans crazy. Even when they get a catching prospect who looks like he might turn into something, they trade him away because he's not an elite defender at the moment. It's maddening...
